2011-05-06 Chicks and ducklings are hatching right, left and centre, wonderful! After two weeks of absolutely lovely weather, incredibly unseasonal, we got back to frost in the morning this week and because of it the asparagus wilted. A bit upsetting I must say. I caught one of the turkey hens on top of a large bale of straw yesterday where she had produced ten eggs. I have been slightly upset with her and the lack of eggs lately but this find explains it. They all went into the hatcher and now I keep my fingers crossed. 2011-02-23 Long time, no English version, sorry. At the moment we are still in hibernation in this part of the world and right now we could do with "a low pressure weather system from the British Isles". It's not often they're this welcome! Despite the freezing cold we might see some new little chicks in a few days time. I hope the hen will look after them properly and keep them warm. I'm really keen to get on with the garden but as the ground is frozen solid I won't be able to get going for a while yet. I have, however, ordered an abundance of seeds to put in pots in the near future. Always something. 2010-06-09 Good weather for ducks! The ducks love it and the chickens have started building themselves an ark. 2010-06-07 This is what we come out of hibernation for! The lilac bushes are in full bloom and the lilies of the valley are getting there. For the first time since we moved to the farm in 1997 there weren't any lilies of the valley on Mother's Day which in Sweden is on the last Sunday of May. The other day 33 chicks hatched in the hatcher. They're of varying breeds and absolutely adorable. I've filled the hatcher with duck eggs and I'll have to wait 34 days to see the result which feels like an awfully long time. |
